An art that any mother needs to master is braiding for girls. It will be useful for dads to learn the secrets of weaving. In the event of a lack of time, building a neat hairstyle for a baby is not as difficult as it seems.
Why choose pigtails for girls
Braids have been known since time immemorial and are the most popular hairstyle for girls.
Pigtails have many undeniable advantages:
- always in fashion;
- hold on for a long time;
- a variety of weaving options;
- hair-friendly hairstyle;
- little time is spent on braiding;
- go to everyone, regardless of the type of person;
- do not require special knowledge;
- do not require many accessories.
And a big plus, braids are not an expensive type of hairstyle.
Basic rules for weaving children's braids
Before you start weaving a pigtail, you should follow a number of rules and recommendations:
- Braiding works best on clean hair. Pigtails on dirty hair expose them to the risk of hair loss or damage.
- It is convenient to wet hair strands with water or a special spray. Superficially dampened, the hair will dry quickly for a neat look and firm grip.
- The condition of the little princess's hair should be assessed. If your hair is thin, you should not try to do tightly braids, but instead consider more voluminous, natural hairstyles.
- If your child has sensitive skin, care should be taken with hair cosmetics. It is best to use organic hair products or natural-based shampoos, conditioners, balms and oils.
- Do not pull the hair tightly at the roots. Braids that are too tight can cause fine hairs to fall out along the parting line, which can lead to permanent damage in the long term.
- Some weaves, especially with thin hair, expose the baby's scalp. Make sure the girl's head is protected from the sun. In some cases, sunscreen oil with an SPF filter is applied to the skin for added protection.
If the girl does not have the patience to wait for the end of weaving, then it is recommended to let her watch an episode of her favorite cartoon, or simply distract the baby with a conversation.
French braid (spikelet)
There are many options for weaving the most popular braid. It can start from the side, from the forehead, from the crown.
The general principle is the same:
- Separate a strand of hair 8-10 cm thick, starting from the top of the head, i.e. collect all the hair from above, so that subsequent strands are added only on the sides. Do not grab strands from above or below.
- At this stage, you can leave some of the hair hanging down the sides, framing the girl's face. Or you can put them all in a braid.
- A French braid starts with a small strand, but the braid gets thicker as new strands are added.
- Divide the strand into three equal parts in thickness, as in a simple braid.
- Weaving of a traditional braid begins.Hands are positioned correctly: two strands in one hand, the third in the other. In traditional weaving, the "right" strand is thrown over the top to the center. Then the "left" strand intersects with the central one, passing over. Several rows of traditional weaving need to be done.
- New hair is added. The traditional braid is still used, new strands are added through the top, alternately on the right and left. Strands are taken starting from the temple.
- Important! A new strand is taken with each new weave. The less hair is added, the more complex and sophisticated the braid looks, but accordingly more time is spent braiding.
- All hair is woven into the braid. As the braid continues, there is less and less loose hair, and when braiding at the back of the head, all hair should be included.
- When there are no more loose strands left, weaving continues in the same way as with a regular three-strand braid. The tip is secured with an elastic band or bow.
Gel rubber bands are not recommended as they damage hair with prolonged wear.
French braid inside out
The inside out French braid looks unusual and voluminous. It is woven in the same way as a regular French braid, but the strands are thrown not over the top, but under the bottom of the main strand, with the direction of movement from right to left and from left to right.
Scythe harness
The braid looks very nice on long hair. Weaving begins from the crown of the head and continues along the entire length of the hair.
- Separate two strands of hair 7-10 cm thick at the crown of the head, twist them clockwise by 5 cm.
- Cross the strands counterclockwise.
- Add a sublet, starting from the temple, (you can twist it with a flagellum, you can leave it in a strand).
- Continue twisting the main strands by regularly adding sub-braids (alternately on the right and left).
- When the hair on the sides ends, continue curling without braiding.
- Secure the end of the braid with an elastic band.
- Smooth fine hairs with cosmetic wax.
This type of weave requires some skill, especially when using a twisted under-braid.
Fish tail
The fishtail is a popular braid.
- Gather the hair in a ponytail and secure with a transparent gel elastic.
- Divide the tail into two equal parts. Unlike a regular braid, here the work is done with only two strands of hair.
- Separate a small section of hair from the farthest edge of one of the two sections, throw it over the common section and attach it to the other section of hair.
- Repeat step three with the other part of the hair (the one that the strand has just joined). The small strand always overlaps “its” original hair section before joining the opposite curl. Take a strand, cross, connect. This movement is repeated constantly.
- Steps three and four are repeated until the braid reaches the end of the hair. The weave should always be tight. Hair strands are attracted to each other as much as possible.
- Having finished weaving, the braid is fixed with an elastic band.
It is better to cut or remove the elastic at the beginning of weaving, free the ponytail. To create a messy look, the braid segments are gently pulled outward, starting at the top.
You can divide your hair into two parts with a parting, braid two fishtail braids, starting from the temples.
Pigtail rope
The braid-rope or plait is so simple that any parent can handle it. Takes weaving no more than 5 minutes, but it looks very elegant.
- Gather the hair into a ponytail, securing it with a large elastic band.
- Divide your hair in two.
- Twist each piece clockwise into a bundle. For convenience, you can ask the girl to hold the resulting flagellum.
- Cross the harnesses in a counterclockwise direction.
- Secure the end with an elastic band or bow.
The direction of twisting of the bundles can be changed. It is important to remember that the harnesses must be crossed in the direction opposite to the side of their twisting.
French tourniquet
French plait is woven using the same technology as braid plait. Weaving starts from the crown. The underlay is added immediately to both the right and left, twisting small strands with flagella. The weave moves clockwise. According to the technology, the French braid is added to the two initial braids, without crossing each other.
Ladder tail
A hairstyle for a girl "Ponytail" is not bad in itself. If you weave a pigtail into the tail, the hairstyle will immediately sparkle with new colors.
The tail is braided with a ladder in an elementary way:
- Make a high ponytail.
- From the middle of the tail, as close to the beginning as possible, separate three strands.
- Start weaving a regular braid, weaving the strands from right to left and from left to right through the central one. Make three passes.
- Add subwrap. The strands are taken from the back of the tail. If the pigtail is on the left, the sub-braid is taken on the left, if on the right, then the additional strands are taken on the right. The additional strands are evenly spaced, with an interval of 10 mm.
- Fix the end of the braid with an elastic band, smooth the protruding hairs with cosmetic wax.
Even the most unruly hair does not get confused in this hairstyle.
Wreath
The braid-wreath looks impressive. Recommended for medium to long hair.
- At the temple, 2 strands are separated.
- The extreme strand on the left is looped over the adjacent one, the loop is tightened (not tight!), The end is released.
- The next curl is threaded through the loop, tightened, the end remains hanging.
- Thus, weaving moves in a circle, the last curl clings to the first strand in a loop, and is fixed with a hairpin.
- The hanging ends are combed; to give a neat look, the hair must be smoothed with varnish.
The wreath braid is a voluminous hairstyle and is not suitable for all types of girls. If a child has a heavy chin, a low forehead, a feeling of massiveness, heaviness is created.
The girls' braids around the head provide an elegant and stylish look. A wreath braid, especially decorated with ribbons or hairpins, is often used for special occasions.
Snake
The Snake Braid is one of the most popular hairstyles for girls of school age. Braiding resembles a French braid inside out, with a braid on both sides. The direction of weaving should be changed several times, creating smooth transitions.
Video of the "Snake" braiding workshop:
Start the braid on one side of the forehead, right or left, and immediately pick up the braiding in the opposite direction in a semicircle.
Waterfall
It is easy to braid the Waterfall braid. It doesn't need to be woven at all, just twisted. The work goes on with just two strands of hair.
- Choose a place, stepping back about 20 cm from the hairline. Starting on the left side, separate a section of hair approximately 10 cm thick, divide it in two.
- Throw the strand closest to the face over the other part. Let go of this strand, take a new strand instead.
- Now, in the same way as in the previous step, cross the new strand with the old one, throwing the lower one up. Then the top strand is released. This is the beginning of the turn of the spit-waterfall.
- Repeat these steps, continuing the waterfall, until the braid reaches the middle of the back of the head.
- Secure the end of the braid with an elastic band.
- Repeat steps one through four on the other side of the head to create the same design.
Once both braids meet, the ends of the waterfall are connected with a small elastic band. You can disguise it by wrapping a small section of your hair around.
Cobweb
The spider web looks complex, but it is actually a combination of two simple hairstyle techniques.
- Gather a ponytail on the crown, leaving hair along the circular parting.
- From the temple, begin to weave a French braid with a braid. The braid is captured from the hair gathered in a ponytail.
- Weaving continues in a circle. The end of the braid is hidden in a wreath, fixed with invisibility.
The cobweb is one of the most well-fitting hairstyles where you can remove all your hair.
Dragons
Weaving braids for girls "Dragons" is a variation of a simple French braid. The braid starts as high as possible from the forehead. The underlays are taken very thin, alternating sides, once the strand is captured on the right, another time on the left. They are at the same distance from each other.
Clover leaf
A simple hairstyle, neat and unusual, does not require time and special skills.
- At the crown, the hair is gathered in a ponytail.
- The tail is divided into three sections.
- Each part is braided into a simple braid.
- With the help of invisible pins and hairpins, the pigtails are wrapped towards the center and fixed in the form of a clover leaf.
Elf
The Elf hairstyle is suitable for short or medium length hair. To create it, on both sides of the head, along the temples, 2 cm thick strands are separated, ordinary braids are braided. The rest of the hair is smoothed out, remains loose.
Pigtails can be pinned up with invisibility to create a cohesive look. Braids are an extension of the hairline. Hair does not interfere with the child, does not get into the eyes, at the same time, loose hair looks very elegant.
Pigtails for girls with elastic bands
Weaving braids for girls using elastic bands is much easier than usual, since the hair is well fixed and does not fall apart in the hands. With rubber bands, the hair is fixed in several places at the same time. The Chess hairstyle is popular - three tails are made along the forehead.
Each ponytail is split in two and stretches along the hair growth, joining new strands and forming new ponytails in a checkerboard pattern. Short hair can be left unbound, while long hair can be pulled into a braid.
Hairstyles with elastic bands are popular with girls who grow bangs and don't want their hair in their way.
Hair can be fixed with elastic bands on the sides of the head, simple pigtails can be braided from ponytails, and styled into a complex hairstyle using invisible hair. Gel rubber bands are not removed, but cut off at the end of the day. It is not recommended to use them often - gel elastic bands are not very useful for hair health.
Pigtails combined with a bundle
The bundles look nice, but for active children it is better to add pigtails for enhanced fixation. The easiest way is to leave part of the hair on the crown, without collecting it in a bun, to braid it with a regular pigtail. Build a bundle, wrap it in a pigtail at the base, hide the end of the pigtail under the hair, secure it with invisibility.
When fixing the beams, it is necessary to use several invisible ones. You can spray your hair with hairspray to secure your hairstyle.
With ribbons
Any braids with ribbons look more elegant and hold tight. Ribbons are woven at the beginning of weaving, the ends at the same distance are added to the strands. If the braid consists of three or more strands, the ribbon is woven into the strands at an equal distance, if the braid consists of two strands, the ribbon can be pulled through after weaving using a special plastic needle.
Hairstyles with braids for short hair
Weaving braids for girls with short hair is not difficult. Most often, simple or French braids are used to keep hair out of the eyes. Pigtails are woven at the temples. The "Waterfall" hairstyle looks beautiful on short hair. The strands go down without getting tangled, and against their background the weaving looks more embossed.
Micro braids, invented especially for short hair, look spectacular.
Weaves for medium hair
Medium hair will fit nicely and neatly into hairstyles with a weave around the head.
Pigtails will be spectacular:
- Wreath.
- Crown.
- Cobweb.
Braid "Waterfall" is focused more on medium hair - they are less tangled, neat and voluminous look. Medium-length hair can be styled in a plait-plait, hairstyle for elven motives.
Long hair options
Long hair looks beautiful both in braids and loose. In school or kindergarten, it is better to keep your hair neatly gathered in a pigtail.
Ideal for long hair:
- Fish tail.
- Dragons.
- French braid.
- Braid-plait or braid-rope.
Combinations in the style of "braid in a braid" or a tail with a braid look beautiful and unusual.
Hairstyles for school
Weaving braids for girls to school has its own characteristics. For school hairstyles, one of the main criteria is speed. In the morning, adults need to go to work, go about their business, so the girl needs to be braided neatly and quickly. The braids should be well-held to keep them tidy, while not pressing or pulling the baby's scalp, which can cause a headache.
Two bundles
Sports braided buns are perfect for summer days. They are made quickly, easily, look delicate and neat, especially on unpainted children's hair.
- Part hair in the middle.
- Apply a moisturizing oil or gel along the entire length of hair from root to tip (oil nourishes hair and smoothes protruding hairs for a smooth look).
- Starting from the front, detach a section of hair and apply oil or spray.
- Gather the rest of the untied hair from the same side and twist it into a tourniquet clockwise, pinning it to the back of the head. The bunch can be stirred up a little, giving a natural disheveledness.
- Wrap the resulting bundle with the separated strand in the other direction, counterclockwise.
Repeat on the other side.
The world's simplest braid-crown
This braided crown looks stylish, perfect for formal occasions - weddings, birthdays or just an evening with friends. Weaving takes no more than five minutes, the skill level is the lowest.
- Part hair with a parting in the middle, then divide with a perpendicular parting into four sections.
- Braid hair from each section, secure the ends with a clear gel rubber band. You need to pull the ponytails slightly towards the head to make the braids look thicker.
- The braids are secured clockwise over the head with hairpins. (you will need two hairpins for the ends of the braids, a few more to secure the body of the braids).
Release several strands of hair by positioning them around the face for a delicate, natural look.
Two braids in one
This voluminous side braid may sound daunting, but in reality it is just two regular braids joined together.
- It is better not to wash your hair for two days using dry shampoo (using dry shampoo ensures strong braiding).
- Comb all hair up, divide into two equal parts along the horizontal parting.
- Braid a regular braid from the hair in one section, secure it with an invisible elastic band.
- Then braid the second section of hair using smaller strands.
- When the weaving of the second braid comes to an end, the elastic is removed from the first braid, the braids are superimposed on one another and secured with an elastic band.
The hairstyle looks more interesting if you pull the loops of the braid outward, giving them volume.
Kindergarten ideas
The child spends a lot of time in kindergarten. Therefore, the hairstyle should be comfortable. Educators, after a day's sleep, entwine children, so it is not recommended to use gel rubber bands that get tangled in the hair and prevent them from being removed.
Hairstyles with soft elastic bands are suitable for kindergarten, with which the hair is fixed at the temples, or at the temples and on the crown. If your hair is long, the easiest way is to tie it into a traditional or French braid. With proper skill, a braid of four and five strands, various kinds of flagella, quickly weave and look beautiful.
Ponytails are recommended for short to medium hair, especially if it does not tend to tangle.
To add originality, you can make an oblique or zigzag parting. If you pull the tails in several places with multi-colored elastic bands, you get an elegant and original look, creating this hairstyle takes no more than 5 minutes.
Weaving braids and creating hairstyles for girls in kindergarten and school practically does not involve the use of “crabs” and “crocodiles” hairpins - they can interfere with an active child in the game or in the classroom. On the contrary, soft rubber bands are always in place.
Weaving braids for girls is an interesting and useful activity. With a variety of hairstyles, the little princess will look and feel unique and very beautiful.
